Meet Emily
Emily Copeland is a Canadian artist known for her mastery in realism. Specializing in charcoal, Emily recreates objects, presenting them on a larger-than-life scale. She aims to captivate audiences by transforming everyday objects into profound visual experiences, showcasing her exceptional skill and artistic vision.
She draws inspiration from many Baroque artists, including Caravaggio, La Tour, and Velázquez. Their emphasis on mimesis—replicating what they see—and their masterful use of chiaroscuro inspire her and influence her work.
Her Process
Each charcoal piece requires over 100 hours to complete, often spread over weeks or even months. In some sessions, Emily may finish less than a square inch, as her process is slow and meticulously detailed. There is no digital enhancement—each piece is exactly as drawn.
